For-Richmond-logo-300This Friday, Richmond students will be able to experience space and science up close as the For Richmond coalition and the Chabot Space & Science Center once again bring the famous, hands-on Chabot-to-Go traveling science fair directly to Richmond.

The family fun event will be at Sheldon Elementary School from 5pm -8pm on Friday, April 19. All Richmond students and their families are invited to attend the Chabot-to-Go mobile science fair, which is free. Dinner will be provided to all guests.

Once again the interactive exhibit will bring its famous star lab as well as other hands-on demonstrations about the stars, galaxies, planets, and space shuttles. But this time, Chabot is adding an exhibit featuring astronaut training to their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education program.

Guided by the belief that our children’s future depends on improving the quality of education in Richmond and access to STEM programs, For Richmond will be organizing this and other educational opportunities throughout the year with the goal of increasing academic performance and enabling Richmond youth to be college and career ready.

“Our students need a steady diet of science and math if they’re going to be ready for the world beyond their classrooms,” said Madeline Kronenberg, For Richmond Education Chair and Board President of the West Contra Costa Unified School District.

“Programs like Chabot-to-go dovetail with the curriculum taught in our classrooms and provide additional opportunities for students to learn and explore,” Kronenberg said.

The Chabot-To-Go program was developed by the Chabot center to support curriculum by bringing traveling science fairs to local school sites.
