Best practices for online and email advertising

Urge your viewer to take action! We live in a fast-paced world with advertising everywhere. With only 2-3 seconds of your viewers time, grab them from the get-go. Be sure to make those seconds count! Online and email marketing can be tricky, but by keeping a few best practices in mind, you can produce a powerful, well planned and effective advertising piece that will attract new business every time.

  • Know your audience – create your advertising with them in mind.
  • Keep the messaging simple and to the point.
  • Make your logo prominent and noticeable.
  • Avoid clutter by keeping images and font types to a minimum.
  • Keep it fresh, edgy and eye-catching, but appropriate for your message.
  • Drive viewers back to an information source such as your website or social media sites.
  • Always include a call to action.
  • Less is more! With fewer, choice elements in your ad, it will be more likely the user will click on it and remember your message.

Your ad should contain:

  1. HEADLINE: Summarize and establish the message in one line.
  2. COPY: Elaborate on the headline with only enough information to create a desire in the viewer to learn more. Some details may not be necessary until a viewer decides to click through.
  3. CALL TO ACTION: Engage your viewer to take the next step towards conversion. A simple “click here” may do the trick, but you can also experiment with some more specific approaches like “join our contest,” “click to play,” or “start learning more now”. Keep in mind the best calls to action contain action words that engage the user to take action.  And there shouldn’t be more than one call to action in the ad.
