Clay with your food: the Triathalon

Event details

  • June 5, 2016
  • 11:00 pm - 2:00 am
  • 867 S 19th Street Richmond CA

In this Culinary Death Match, three chefs will compete against each other in three heated events. They will prepare food in the kiln at 800 degrees, create their own serving dish out of clay (either hand-built or thrown on the wheel), and plate food on a sculptural piece designed by international Clayboy and Vesselist, Jered Nelson.

The brave competitors are Kelsey Kerr from Standard Fare in Berkeley, Mark Liberman from AQ in San Francisco, and Galen Vasquez from Sons & Daughters in San Francisco. They will be judged in the spirit of Whose Line is it Anyway? where “everything is made up and the points don’t matter.” Guest judges are Sara Paloma (ceramicist), Owen Rogers (designer and partner from IDEO), and The Dapper Diner (food writer). For half-time entertainment, Jered will be challenged to test his culinary skills.

Join this fun and messy spectacle to see what happens when chefs are asked to approach the art of plating and design from outside the comfort of their kitchens. There will be audience participation. Wine and appetizers will be provided.
